Post 2: Sources
I still feel as though I'm floundering a bit, but I think I've started to solidify my topic. I'm considering writing about how improper citation use affects engagement with an article. Improper citation use in this case means any mistakes with the formatting, but also excessive use of self-citing. I am planning to track engagement with an article by looking at the number of times it is cited in other articles (aside from the author themselves). I want to see if there is any significant correlation.
Some sources I've found about citations thus far are as follows:

Reflection question 3:
This list is still missing some PTW journal sources. Additionally, I would like to find more on the topic of self-citing and on engagement with articles. I also need to start thinking about finding the actual sources to analyze for the research, rather than just the sources that apply to my topic. I think I'll focus on looking through PTW journals for anything about self-citing for now, and revise my source list accordingly.
Good start, Cora!! I think your topic is slowly, but surely, taking place.
ReplyDeleteI am actually excited to read this possibility in your blog #2: "I am planning to track engagement with an article by looking at the number of times it is cited in other articles (aside from the author themselves). I want to see if there is any significant correlation...." In fact, there is a research on Citation Analysis in the field of PTW (specifically, on digital rhetoric).
On Canvas under the Course Textbook, etc. on top/homepage --> click on "Required PDF Articles" --> scroll down to the 3rd article called "PDF article on Digital Rhetoric Research" -- this might be a good source for you to start exploring -- the Citation Analysis bit is on pp. 105+ under "Cybermetrics and Bibliometrics"... Try to see if you can get chunks and nuggets from this source (or at least lead you to develop your topic focus)... if not, just ignore and continue your search.
Finally, am also glad to also see your response to reflection 3 -- indeed, to position your topic within the PTW field of emphasis, be sure to throw into the mix at least 4 articles from PTW-specific journals (see "Sources on PTW" on Canvas/top part). Look for published journals where the PTW scholars used "CITATIONS" or whatever keywords you have in your blogpost that you plan to investigate, ok?
Let me know if you want a quick Zoom meeting with me -- am here.
Best,
Dr. B
